Lantern WG MUD / Re: No application
« on: December 09, 2016, 09:04:58 PM »
Has the game been online anytime in the last week?

The server doesn't appear to be active currently, and hasn't been for about a week now. I've personal messaged AL_K, asking about Lantern's server status, but I have yet to receive a reply.

If you wanted to ask AL personally as to why Lantern has yet to be online, he has a linked e-mail on his account profile that you could try to contact him through (http://www.weightgaming.com/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=442 ,click the envelope to open an email screen).

Another one goes to the fail bin...

I wouldn't call a project with a month of no activity a failed venture, especially considering that games can take tons of time to make.

Though if you wanted to know how far 'The Factory' is/isn't into development, you could try to contact/pm the creator (fatcatche profile url: http://www.weightgaming.com/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=87 ), seeing as they were signed in as recent as today on the forum. (see fatcatche's link's 'Last Active:' time for the exact time)

General Discussion / Re: A Request, About making Child Boards/Threads
« on: December 03, 2016, 10:39:20 PM »
To be sure, I'm the only one that can reorganize the boards and make them as per the developer's requests. If the developer agrees with your propositions, I can definitely carry out these changes.
Apologies. I had thought that those given moderation privileges on a board could also create Child Boards on it, hence why I was asking here.

General Discussion / A Request, About making Child Boards/Threads
« on: December 03, 2016, 10:18:26 PM »
Preface:

I've noticed that Lantern's forum lacks organization. This isn't terrible by any means, but it does mean that it's slightly harder to find information about one specific aspect of Lantern, or it's development. Basically, I would like for communications between the us (the players), and those developing the game (mods, AL, etc) to be improved and made easier to maintain. I know this is going to feel like a laundry list, but all of the ideas I'm proposing are centered around adding more Child Threads to better organize the forum.

Suggestions:

A Thread for Game Changes and Updates

  • Having a thread specifically for Game Updates and Patches would help directly track features that are implemented, keep users informed, and could also serve as a timeline for when features were implemented into Lantern. I'm suggesting this because the only real form of 'patch notes' Lantern has at the moment is word of mouth, and the occasional progress update by AL.

A Thread Dedicated to Documenting in Game Bugs and Errors

  • No game is perfect, and even in this early state of development, there are bugs and errors in Lantern. Having a thread to centralize these bug reports would help with keeping track of Lantern's current issues from a programming or implementation standpoint, and would ease the pressure of finding errors from those developing Lantern's code.

A Thread for Developer Announcements and Feedback

  • This suggestion purely to keep updates by developers from clogging the 'general discussion' Child Thread, and somewhere where they are easy to access and reply to.

Closing:

I'm not demanding that anything I'm proposing should be implemented, and I hope this request post doesn't come off as aggressive. I just feel that there is room to improve Lantern's Forum plus not having categories is making my OCD go off.

Where's the vidya at? I'm finally awake and available at the right time to actually try to hop onto the MUD, but it's still offline.

Also, I received a reply from Al after my post a while back, but I have yet to be able to get onto it to even see it. It's always down.

I'm not sure honestly.

AL_k has taken a 4 day hiatus (starting on Thanksgiving, updated on the 26th). During this time Lantern has been completely down, for one reason or another. AL was saying he'd get back to working on Lantern on Monday the 28th.

this info was cited from this quote:

I've taken a break for the last few days and haven't done anything. I'll get back on it after the weekend. Stay tuned.

Although the server seems to have been online for very short bursts (not even long enough to log in) around noon, it has been offline most of today.

I'd suggest trying to get in contact with AL_k, since he's the only person who would know why there's been so much 'radio silence' as of late.

Introductions / Hello!
« on: November 21, 2016, 12:25:37 AM »
As the subject implies, this is my introduction post!

I'd been stalking around the forums for quite a while now, and figured I might as well make an account so that I could contribute to it.

I go by Zipp here. There's no significance in the name, it just sounds nice to me.

So, some things about me:

-I like games and other interactive media
-I also enjoy creating games, though I haven't gotten any projects finished as of now
-I'm (predictably) a fan of this sites genre of expansion, and have been for a while now
-I like to put bullet lists in posts, because it makes organizing what I'd like to say easier

Anyways, I hope I can contribute some useful discussions and answers to the forums!

P.S: This should be the sites 420th topic!

This is a quote from the creator (AL_K), with the underlined section addressing why the server isn't always online.

Nope, no estimate on completion.  This is still in the early development stage.  And for that reason, I'm unwilling to buy a domain and pay for hosting until I feel like it's worth it.  I found a semi-permanent hosted database solution and logging.  Running the NodeJS in a container is the cost.  Nodejitsu or others seems to be valid but everything above 'hobby' is pay-to-use.  And this is a "hobby" project.

People hop on and off during the day, usually 9 - 6 eastern time.  I try to have it up then.  Other times are less regular.  There's a lot of crash bugs and no application monitoring so if there's a problem (and there are currently many), it will simply crash and stay down.

Thanks for your interest -- hope to see you online soon.  I hope you'll visit and leave some feedback about what you see and like/dislike.

Basically, until the game gets further into development, it's going to have a temporary hosting solution. I'd suggest checking the game's current link (https://lantern-al-k.c9users.io/) often to see if it's online.

Note:

-If you've already created a character on the server, typing their name+password allows you to continue playing as that character once you rejoin, so don't worry about losing progress due to the server going offline.

I tried to play the game when i got to the project site it said no application found here whats going on on that site?

Don't worry! This isn't an issue on your end.

This message means that the server is not currently hosting the game, and likewise sends you to a 503 (service unavailable) page. If you're having trouble determining when the game is live, try connecting during the time-frame of:

9:00 AM - 6:00 PM United States Central Time (GMT -6)

Notes:

-The server won't always be active during these times, though it most commonly is.
-The game is unstable as of now, and may go offline with no warning while you're playing.
